Grand Master Louis Napolitano, Comte du Tuat, 1967

Louie ran an underground pseudo-Masonic occult club at the time out of a nearby abandoned church basement, until threatened with trespass charges. He then re-opened the club in another building.

Louie’s club was frequented by many of the area’s most notable people, and had a large influence on the area’s underground music scene. It was in here that the first performances of both bands of the 1960s psychedelic rock scene took place. The “Louie Louie” song had no direct lyrical connection to the club or it’s patrons, but was an amalgamation of the club’s underground popularity and Louie’s own personal background.

Louie and the church building were both demolished in 2016.
